[He's too enthralled by what just happened to take offense at the insult. He thinks back to Vegeta's earlier explanation, recalling what he said about energy and all that. But what really catches in his mind is the fact that everybody's supposed to have it.]

That's what that ki stuff does? So anybody could do that?

Yes, that's exactly what I was getting at. [omfg he's repeating himself he hates that so much] Did you take any notice of how quickly I was blocking and countering you just now? Ki does that as well. Though I don't know why you're so concerned now, I doubt you'd have the capability of using it.

[He fights the urge to accuse Vegeta of cheating for having ki to help him out. He doesn't yet understand it well enough to tell if it is or not.]

How the hell do you know I can't? I bet...

[There's no money here, so he can't just slam down all his cash. He looks around frantically for inspiration, his eyes finally resting on the singed house.]

I bet two weeks of cleanin' your stupid house that I can do it! Or... or whatever you wanna bet.

[Because he realizes too late that that's a really terrible bet, especially if he loses.]

[He eyes his house also considering what the punk just offered. There's no way this weakling could learn how to even pull a fraction of his own energy out. And that means he wouldn't have to lift a finger to do housework.

Win win situation.]

Make it a month and you've got a deal.

[A month? The two weeks he suggested was already pushing it. He really doesn't want to be picking up after somebody else, no matter how bored he is in Luceti.

He crosses his arms over his chest and tries to project a confidence he doesn't quite feel.]

Make it whatever you want. 'Cause I won't lose.

[He realizes he needs to add another condition, or else this guy might just say good luck and leave Firo to puzzle his way through it without any instructions. He doesn't even know where to start.]

...But you've gotta show me. You can't just expect me to figure it out on my own.

[Chuckling deviously, he nods- that's fair, he'll show the boy alright.] Isn't that half the challenge though? Figuring it out on your own? Besides, cleaning my house wouldn't be that bad- you'd at least be fed well. [Bulma makes awesome food Firo. And a lot of it. Every day.]

[So he holds out his hand, letting a small ball of energy float in it, showing it to Firo.] See? That easy.

[He's being a jerk though. Don't let him get away with such a horrible explanation.]

[Firo's survival instincts left over from his street days perk up at the mention of free food, but his pride overrides it.]

That's not a challenge, that's impossible! And I don't need you to feed me--I'm not a dog!

[He turns his attention to the ball of energy, then back at Vegeta. He didn't see a single hand signal or hear any spells that would have made that happen; he's sure if he did the same nothing would come from the simple gesture.]

...That tells me nothin'.

I'm going to have to spoon feed it to you am I? Fine. Listen up because I'm only going to say this once.

[How the hell does he explain this. He thinks for second.]

It's an energy from your core. You can't be all tense when trying to draw it out or it won't work. Just grab a hold of it and pull it out, got it?

Givin' some actual instructions isn't "spoon feedin'" me.

[He raises a doubtful eyebrow but holds out his hand in an imitation of Vegeta's earlier movement. Despite the caution, he can't help but be tense. There's a lot at stake if he screws this up.

Just as expected, absolutely nothing comes from his attempts. He looks back up at Vegeta, frowning as he wonders if the instructions are vague to set him up to fail.]

...But how do I grab it?

[Uhhhh that's a good question. He's just always been able to do it, it's in his blood- perks of being part of a warrior race.]

You need to stop worrying about how and just do it. Relax your mind and just reach into the center of your body. It's that simple. This isn't a difficult concept to grasp. [Eyeroll.] But I don't care either way, I'd rather have a little slave around the house for a while.

[He lets his hands drops back to his sides and heaves a frustrated sigh at last remark.]

I haven't even been tryin' that long; you can't give up on me yet!

I just don't get how I'm supposed to reach for it if it's not actually there.

[At least, as far as Firo knows. If he can't see it or feel it, it might as well not be real to him.]

It's there, you just haven't tried hard enough. Have you even been training at all boy? You might not be strong enough to handle it! [AS HE SUSPECTED.]

Of course I've trained! ...Just not in stuff like this.

[He's been getting himself into scrapes and fights for as long as he can remember. His real training didn't start until the Martillos found him, but Mr. Yagu and Ronnie and the rest were all great teachers. Firo grits his teeth; there can't be anything wrong with his training or his teachers, in his mind. So then the problem must be him.

[What he needs is more a description of terms--like what exactly this energy is and how he should think if his core--but he's too annoyed to be precise.]

Saiyans have always been able to control their energy without much effort. We're a superior warrior race- you could say it's just in our blood. [He smirks- he's pretty proud of that fact, and he'll display that pride allllll day.]

I don't know what else to tell you. It's as I've already stated. You simply search the center of your body for it, and once you've relaxed your mind you withdraw it from there and manifest it in your hand. If you even have enough to withdraw, it might be more of a mental block than a physical one.

You look a little stressed. That's probably why. I'd be stressed too if I were stuck cleaning for a whole month.

[Even though he saw (and felt) Vegeta's "superior" fighting abilities just a few moments ago, Firo still bristles at the bold claim. Gritting his teeth so hard it hurts, he mumbles to himself.]

Superior? Yeah, right...

[A mental block? Firo's never considered himself good with anything brainy, so he wonders if that could be the answer.]

I'm not stressed. I've got nothin' to worry about.

[He takes a deep breath and slowly lets it out. Because, yes, he is more than a little stressed.]

So how do I get rid of a mental block?

Do you want another demonstration? I can have that arranged, only this time you can feel it first hand so then you'll have something to worry about. [He heard that, Firo. Saiyans have incredible hearing. Not as good as Nameks, but still good.]

Easy, meditation. You should be doing that already anyway, so if you're not you might want to think about starting. Or you'll never win this bet.

[Darn it, he should have known. He instinctively leans away from Vegeta, mentally cursing himself a moment later when he realizes that. No matter how nervous he should be (and is), he doesn't want to show it.]

Geez, calm down! No, I don't.

[He raises an eyebrow in a way that indicates, no, he's not been doing any meditation and he never thought he needed to.]

Meditation? Isn't that what, like... monks and stuff do?

[He rolls his eyes; now he's convinced this boy is not really a fighter at all. What fighter doesn't meditate.]

It's not just monks. A warrior must be calm and detached. You aren't going to be able to control anything if you don't have a calm mind, don't you see what I'm getting at now?

[Sorry Firo- he's an awful teacher. He's never done this before.]

I've never met anybody who does stuff like that.

[He's never needed a calm mind to beat up the jerks back home. In his experience, rage can actually help in a fight.]

But fine. Tell me, how do I do that?

[He really should be able to figure it out by himself, but he thinks there must be more to it than just sitting quietly.]

He can't hold it back anymore, really meditating wasn't that hard. Pulling ki out is a little harder but he just can't believe this boy doesn't even know how to do something so simple.]

[He peeks through his fingers as he lets his hand slide down his face. he just doesn't have the patience anymore, the little he had just ran out.]

Why don't you scamper over to the library and look it up. Find your own way of doing it. [Vegeta's is a lot different from other people's ways of doing it. He stood out on a cliff for three days without moving once staring out across the mountain range.]

[He pouts, not moving an inch. Firo knows he says some stupid things, but he feels that Vegeta's overreacting somewhat. It's not that weird a question where he's from!]

What the hell kind of teacher are you? You can at least give me an idea!

[He doesn't have anything against reading, really. It's just much easier for him to have someone hand feed it to him.]

You should be thankful I've taken even this much time trying to explain something so easy to you! [Man, it's gotta be this stupid village, living here must really be getting to him considering how much patience he's gained for what he views as stupidity. He's gotta get out of Luceti, for the love of the galaxy.]

You're going to have to figure that out for yourself. I'm not going to be doing all the work for you. In fact I'm going to enjoy watching you do all the work for me, if you catch my drift. [He's done helping Firo- he feels like he's given him everything he's needed to know.]

But here, I'll give you one last demonstration before all your hopes are crushed. [He holds his hands out in front of him, palms facing each other-] Now watch closely- [And a tiny little ball of energy appears, floating between his hands.] That's what you want. From the core. Got it? [He angrily dismisses the energy, arms folding across his chest.]

If it's so easy, then why don't you just explain it already? If you're so damn superior, it should be easy enough for you to teach me one little thing!

[Just stomping off is tempting right now, but he has a lot to lose if he does and he really wants to learn. For that reason, he quiets down and stops flailing his arms when Vegeta offers another demonstration. He moves forward, leaning in until his face is a probably-unwise several inches from the energy. He wants to see as much as possible.

He straightens when it's over, shaking his head. Despite his close scrutiny, he didn't see anything else that would help him understand it better.]

Thanks. That was really helpful. I'm startin' to think that maybe talkin' to a wooden shelf would be better than askin' you for help.
